Mrs. Cranks Famous Potion

We are in the ramp up stage for Gianna's big surgery in March. She needs to have at least an inch of extra skin to risk complications after surgery. Really awful complications that involve skin splitting open and other horrible things. Let's just say that we are totally motivated to MAKE SURE we reduce the risk of those complications.

Because she burns so many calories just trying to breathe, it is REALLY HARD to get her to gain weight. She is a HUGE eater, a healthy eater, an adventurous eater, but alas, additional weight gain is elusive.

I decided I need to consult an expert.....

My friend Aimee.
She is the proud mommy to this beautiful roly, squishy baby. SURELY she would have words of wisdom and advice for "Operation Chub Up."

Aimee thought for a moment, and then poured Gianna a cup of "Milkshake"

Gianna took a sip, smiled and said, "It tastes JUST LIKE STARBUCKS!!!"  (Which in itself is miraculous, because she has never had anything from Starbucks!)

She quickly drained the first cup and asked for more. She drank the second cup and asked for a third. Aimee graciously sent us home with her whole stockpile of the stuff.

Because of Aimee, we are getting an additional 800-1000 calories into Gianna each and every day.  So what is this magic potion?

EggNog.
Since I have never tried the stuff myself, I HAD NO IDEA of it's plumping properties.

Unfortunately for us, it is a seasonal product. It may even be ILLEGAL to drink it after the holidays. Who do you know who is still drinking EggNog in February? Gianna, thats who!

I plan to buy out my local stores and freeze the stuff to last us through March. Or start a bootleg eggnog still in my backyard. Or maybe both.

Thanks Aimee for your help in getting "Operation Chub Up" to a roaring start!

  1. The fresh stuff is better, but there is an eggnog out there that is in a CAN. Probably with an indefinite shelf life ;) It's only available during Christmas, but it would be good to have on hand when you are away from home for the surgeries.

  2. Non-Alcoholic Eggnog
    Ingredients
    6 eggs
    1/2 cup white sugar
    Pinch of salt
    4 cups whole milk, divided
    2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    Ground cinnamon, for garnish
    Nutmeg, for garnish

    Directions
In a saucepan, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir in 2 cups of milk. Cook mixture on low, constantly stirring, until the mixture thickens.

When it thickens, remove from heat and add in the rest of the milk and the vanilla extract. Pour into a pitcher, cover, and refrigerate overnight.

When chilled, garnish with a dash of ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Enjoy!

(I would use 2 cups whole milk and 2 cups heavy cream to get the fat content up higher.)

Now you can make it year round so you won't be run out of the stores for buying all the Eggnog.

    Blessings, Denise M
