A Most Perfect Day

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Cristy who played the violin.
It lasted for maybe 12 months.
Give or take 6.
One of her favorite memories was screeching out "Baa Baa Black Sheep" for her great grandmother.
I think she got hearing aides shortly after that.

Anyhoo, Cristy did not stick with the violin, although she had a deep seated love for the instrument.
She met and married the love of her life, a man who also played the violin for a very short period.
It was obviously meant to be.

Unbeknownst to their children, it was in the fine print of their life's plan to make encourage AT LEAST ONE of their children to take violin lessons.
Aria was our first willing victim, participant. Her eyes are closed just relishing the idea of playing
"Baa Baa Black Sheep" for her parents.
Over.
And over.
Annnndddd over again.

Our Maggie came with us, since she is the violin expert.  She actually moved past the initial six months of playing, and {GASP} has been playing for 11 years. She also had the same teacher Aria will have. AND, she has a scholarship at college as a music major PLAYING THE VIOLIN.
Be still my heart.
We decided to stop in at the ole "Fickle Pickle" for lunch.
Never been there, but a new violin is cause for a crazy celebratory lunch.

Gianna was the only one who braved a photo with the  fickle pickle.
I guess Aria grew up the second that violin case was slung over her shoulder.
She was too refined to pose with a creepy cucumber-like thing.
Her loss.

We got home, and Maggie gave her the  basics and that girl started screeching with the best of 'em.
She didn't quite make it to "Baa Baa" but I feel it..... it's coming soon.

One thing I know for certain is this:

Living your dream through your child is kinda fun.

Annnndddd,

If you hear a screeeching rendition of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" coming from my house,
it may or may not be Aria with bow in hand.

Just sayin'.

  1. Our youngest wants to play the violin too...You are one step ahead of me. Hopefully she will play longer then her parents did.

  2. Well, the violin is quieter than say, drums. And I know she'll get really good really quickly.
Youngest plays the flute (and does not care what his brothers say) which is much quieter and apparently easier to learn than the trumpet. Which the other two learned....

We can tell you for certain, living your dream thru your child can be even better than doing it yourself. And for a real trip, we're willing to bet it will be even better thru a grandchild. We am very proud and can't wait for the first recital!!!
