**We rang in Christmas Eve in the ER with Celia who had a ridiculously high heart rate
(180 while sleeping) due to a high fever. The ER staff was well versed in mito kids, and took every precaution as well as did every test to make sure they weren't missing something. After several hours of IV fluids, it was decided that the hospital was way too dangerous a place for Miss Celia, and that we could manage it at home. If her heart rate jumped up that high, we would have to bring her back, as her heart can get "stuck" in a tachycardia and then her blood pressure can drop, which is dangerous.
On Christmas Day poor Aria started vomiting, and Gianna's tummy hurt and Sofia had the awful cough minus the high fever that Celia had.
The day after Christmas, mommy caught the respiratory bug and Daddy was coughing too.
Celia is still coughing, but we have managed to keep her hydrated, keep her oxygen level up despite the gunky cough, and now her fever is gone so her heart rate isn't so dangerously high. It was touch and go for several days on whether or not she would be admitted, but PRAISE THE LORD, we were able to keep her home for Christmas.
We have decided to go ahead and initiate the process for nursing care. Not sure if it will be during the day or at night, but we have spoken to one nursing company and plan to interview them next week.
Some nights, she sleeps well with nary an alarm, but on the nights she struggles, it would be helpful to have someone sitting with her to assess her every second. On the other hand, having a day nurse would be helpful so that we could run errands without exposing her to germs, so we will see what insurance will approve and go from there.
I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas. Despite all the illness and stress, we enjoyed it to the fullest, and are grateful for the blessings in our lives.
In the case of our girls being sick during Christmas - we say Bah Humbug. As for the smiles all the girls manage when the worst has passed - we sat Hallelujah and Amen. Praying for you (one and all).
ReplyDeleteAlways saying a prayer for all of you. May the New Year bring LESS sickness and wonderful blessings to your family.
ReplyDeleteOh my dear! Sending big prayers for healing your way.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you have the sickies in your house..hope everyone gets better soon and Celia stays strong. Good luck with nursing care.
ReplyDeleteI hope you all feel better soon. I had a scare with my youngest, too. We are instituting mask wearing in crowds, like church, to keep her healthy, since I don't have a way to keep her home with anyone. Good luck with the nursing care. It can be a huge help, but beware of the nurse who tries to take your place and act like she's knows your child better than you do. My friend recently let her nurse go because of this.
