Bad became worse.
I took my happy girl back to the pediatrician this morning, expecting to hear, "It looks great, see you in a week for recheck, blah, blah..."
Instead, my VERY ASTUTE Dr. Smith noticed that:
A) The pustule had ruptured and was oozing lots and lots into her eardrum. OUCH!
and,
B) That her ear was flaring out (think dumbo) which could mean that the infection had spread to the bone behind the ear.
After a call to the ENT, another antibiotic shot, and an emergency appointment made at the ENT, he said that IF she wasn't admitted today, then he would see her tomorrow for another shot.
To make a long sordid story even longer, my sweet sister rushed over to the house to pick up the big girls, Greg rushed down to the hospital to meet us for the ENT appointment and then ugly things happened to my girl.
Celia's ear was suctioned, a stent was put into her ear to hopefully help it not to swell shut and she was suctioned again. Oral antibiotics were prescribed as a compliment to the shots she will still get daily. They have sent off a culture of the ooze and it takes 5-7 days to get back.
The plan is to keep her out of the hospital now, and then if she needs IV antibiotics after the culture comes back, then we will be admitted. His hope is, that these 2 high powered drugs will kill what it is, and she will also get antibiotic ear drops to help the inner ear as well. He doesn't *think* it's spread to the mastoid bone... yet.
She needs to be seen by my Ped daily to make sure she is going in the right direction and then in a week at the ENT.
Both Dr.'s assured us that it's nothing we did or didn't do, it really could be that she scratched her ear and that is enough to cause all this. Or from a swimming pool. (Reason #3,437 why I HATE public pools)
A scratch.
Sadly, this isn't surprising to me, as Aria has had more than one nasty skin infection from a bug bite.

My Ped said this has become so prevalent that the Children's Hospital has room in the ER designated for skin infections.
So yes, I know what you're thinking and don't worry, we are thinking it too.
We are THAT family.
There, I said it.
Yeah, whatever. ;0)
Yeah, whatever. ;0)
Can I even say, "my poor, poor Celia" enough?
I think not.
Sweet baby girl! I hope she gets better overnight and is a trooper for her mommy, with all the medicines and shots. It is so hard to be calm when they are hurting. Must be time to go to the disney store!
ReplyDeletePoor thing!!
ReplyDeleteI can't help but wonder, how can so much happen to one so young, sweet, beautiful and wonderful as our little Celia? I don't have any answers, just the knowledge that He knows where she is and what she is going through, and even with all that- He is in complete and perfect control. We are crying with you as she is going through all the many things she has to endure. Give her a snuggle kiss from us.
ReplyDeletePraying, praying, praying. Infections are nasty things and I wish I was there to help!
