Our New Normal

Our life doesn't look the way we expected it to:

It is full of medications.
Breathing treatments.
Medical bills.
Wound care.
Flushing ports.
Insurance company calls.
Doctor appointments.
More Doctor appointments.
Trips to the pharmacy.
Where we are on a first name basis.
Deliveries of formula come to our door.
And medical equipment of various kinds.
On a weekly basis.
Sleepless nights of worry.
And days centered around the next feeding.
Tears at unexpected times.
And love undeserved from friends and family.

We "live life" in the two hours in between hour-long feeds these days.

But "living life" is what we intend to do.

Like jumping in the leaves from the comfort of your stroller.
Just to enjoy the beauty of a fall day.

And sweet smiles from your twinny.
To encourage you and give you strength.

Like an unexpected leaf party.
 Just because you can.

And finding joy in the simple things.
Like toes who work just the way you need your hands to.

Our life is FAR from normal.
But it is wonderful all the same.

  1. Those are the MOST talented toes we have ever seen. The girls are so blessed to have such a creative Mom, to be able to find joy and laughter in all situations. If this isn't a Romans 8:28 moment, I don't know what is!!!!

  2. What a joy to see those smiles. Thought of you on Gotcha Day....remembering meeting you all face to face in China. Hard to believe we've been home a year! Know that you are loved and prayed for. You have so faithfully detailed God's faithfulness in this past year and your faithfulness in the midst of suffering is a great testimony to God. Thank you for sharing with us all.

  3. It's so good to see Celia home. I hope she's feeling better since her surgery. My heart goes out to you and your new normal. It is a horrendous schedule! I know you will manage, but I also know that it won't be easy, at least at first.
