We added another...

....hospital bracelet to our collection.

Yes indeed we did.

Our sweet baby Celia caught the crud that her sisters accidentally shared.

Yesterday morning, after a very long and rough night of her coughing, I called the Pediatrician to be seen on Saturday.
Except they had no appointments available.

Her fever went to 102.2 and we called the advice line at the hospital. They paged our Dr on call.

When I explained "all things Celia", and what was currently going on with her, she said,

"How far away are you from the hospital? You need to leave NOW."

Kinda freaked this Momma out, especially since we are a good 45-50 minutes away.

She called ahead to tell them we were coming, and that Celia must be kept in isolation to protect her from other children's germs.

So we get there and her pulse/ox is 93.
Not great but not super-scary.

She and I were quickly rushed to a room, and the Dr came in and ordered chest xrays.

Unfortunately, the Dr. was not well-versed in mito kids, but she was kind and fairly thorough.

She and I snuggled, watched copious amounts of Curious George on the IPAD, and she took a sweet little nap in between hacking up her lungs, right in my lap.

After 72 hours, a very long time, the Dr finally came in, and Celia's temp had spiked to 103.

The Dr  said she saw lots of air pockets in her lungs, so we have to be careful her lungs don't collapse. We greatly upped her breathing treatment regime and were told to be in the pulmonologist's office on Monday.
She gave us an antibiotic and sent us on our merry way. Informing me that it was highly likely we would have to bring her back before Monday.

Last night, we took shifts sleeping on the floor in her room, alternating tylenol and advil to keep her fever at bay, and giving her breathing treatments every 4 hours.

We had her sleep in a carseat in her crib, because she can easily aspirate phlegm, vomit, etc.

Her fever seems to have broke (for now) but her cough is pretty yucky and she has had spells of choking-type episodes. Needless to say, we are watching her like a hawk.

As I gave her a breathing treatment and sang to her in the middle of the night, I couldn't help but just be in awe of this little treasure that God has given us. Caring for her and making her comfortable is truly our joy to do.

If you think of it, prayers are greatly appreciated that our little lamb.

  3. I hope Celia is on the mend, but I imagine it will take her quite awhile to clear this bug. I love the post after (before) this one, too. It is strange how people perceive those of us who have children with special needs.

Have you got any really good masks for the next time someone in your family has a bug? I'm not sure who should wear it, the sick one or Celia, but a good doctor could tell you.
