Beans and Rice.

Is not just for dinner.
At therapy, Celia gets to play in a big bucket of dried beans. It helps her sit up on her own, use her hands to play and is great for textures, and finding buried toys.

She loves it so much, we decided to plunk down ungodly amounts of money for her own bucket-o-beans at home, and supplemented with lots of rice, pasta and different shapes and sizes of beans.
Then we buried balls, army men, cars, cups, spoons, cinderella, and pretty much anything else you can think of to make it FUN to play in.
She thinks it's pretty cool to play in beans and rice. And she usually sits up straight too, well, except for when she's looking up at Mommy to smile for the camera.
And so does her twin sissy. And the biggies are pretty excited about the idea too. It made for HOURS of fun for all... And HOURS of cleanup for Momma. HA! All fun things are messy.
Side note: If you come over and notice rice and beans on the floor... pretend you didn't see them.

Now that she is becoming aware of her hands, she is in to pointing to everything. I asked her if she was ready to get out and she pointed out. Look how relaxed her hand is and she got it to point where she wanted it to. SOOOO EXCITING!!!
And when we outgrow all these lovely beans and rice, the obviously homeschooled cashier at Publix suggested we make rain-makers for all our family and friends.
Hmmm.... he might just be on to something!

  1. GREAT idea!
My suggestion? Put a cheap shower curtain underneath to catch any...flyaways!

  2. And we thought we had seen it all! Beats a sand box any old day (especially in the winter!). We are so impressed (and thankful) for the progress they are making. Clearly, The Lord's hand is in it all (we hear He likes to play in bean boxes, too, because some times that's where the little children that He loves so much can be found.)
Thanks for all your work on the blog!

  3. What a great idea, When we belonged to ECFE, it always amazed me what simple and creative idea could enhance a childs learning and skills. Celia has come so far along in such a short time. It is amazing how fast our kids strive when they are in a loving world.
PS...thanks for the encouraging words on my blog
