A Celia Update.
Our little Celia just got her very first pair of PINK AFO's( ankle/foot orthotics)
We had to get her tennis shoes that are 2 sizes too big, so she looks like BigFoot.
Aren't they the CUTEST???
She is also the proud owner of this Stander courtesy of Babies Can't Wait.
Their initial goal was for her to hold her head up for 20 seconds.
She can hold it up for over 2 minutes without wobbling.
Her BCW therapist comes to our home twice a month and her set goals from her last visit she has already surpassed. Time to write new goals for our little girl!
The therapist thinks she will be cruising the furniture by the time she is 3 yrs old.
I can hardly believe it, but today, she stood holding on to the couch BY HERSELF for almost a minute.
I never thought THAT would be possible either.
She is supposed to work up to 3 hours a day in her stander.
Which is only doable if she gets to watch copious amounts of Barney.
She will do just about anything if she can watch that purple dinosaur.
Now isn't this the loveliest of new furniture pieces to have in the middle of our family room? HA!
Look at my cute little punkin with her sporty new AFO's and head held high in her brand new stander!
I'm so proud, I could POP!
And when she gets tired of all that PT stuff, her sister is happy to drag her around so she doesn't miss out on the fun.
Twin races.....
The girls drag the twins over the slippery hardwood floors and see who is the fastest.
Yes, I let them dry mop my floors with their sisters. :)
She is doing extremely well with therapy. So well in fact, that we shocked her therapist today who hasn't seen her in two weeks and couldn't believe (despite her being sick) how much more she could do from her last visit.
She has OT 2x per week at Childrens (Today she got to paint and LOVED that!)
She has PT 1x per week at Childrens and every other week at home.
And speech?
Well, our LOVELY insurance Aetna will cover speech therapy if, say, you have chronic ear infections that leads to hearing/speech issues. Yup, that should be covered. But let's say you have CEREBRAL PALSY? Nope... those kids aren't worthy of speech therapy according to Aetna. Why would they want to help those children communicate???
Needless to say, we are appealing that ruling. I know, I should save my breath and my stamps but I just can't let this slide. Aetna should be ASHAMED of themselves, and when open season comes, it will be a reason to chose another company.
But let's not end this post on a nasty rant about rotten insurance companies....
There... that's MUCH better.
She melts my heart with her infectious JOY and determination.
The end.
She just needed a family that knew how to show her what she can do and allow her to show her. You guys are showing her that she isn't disable at all, she just got challenges and will find new ways to do things. With insurance, I know what you mean, they pay for glasses for people to see, but not for hearing aides.
ReplyDeleteWow, Cristy, just wow! She looks so STRONG in her new stander. God does work miracles that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteWoo HOO!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, insurance companies sometimes just don't quite see the forest for the trees. BUT appeal it. And see if they have a patient advocate.
And if they give you all you need, you might want to wait for a few more years, or else you might have to jump through all those hoops again.
I laughed so hard at the twin races on the floor!
ReplyDeleteWoW! She is doing AMAZING! From one CP mom to another, keep fighting. You have already seen huge gains in your sweet girl. I would LOVE to chat sometime.
ReplyDeleteWhy is she not getting speech from EI or from the school district? She should be getting something and much more services from them! Maybe it works different down there. We def. need to chat. I have a few tips for you about insurance.
WAY TO GO CELIA!!!! I love her stander and I know her Momma would have a bright orange trash can in her family room if it would help her girl.
ReplyDeleteAny time Celia needs company watching Barney, just give Grandma a call. Logan and I used to watch Barney and I know all the songs!
If the medical profession can keep up with Celia's progress - she will beat the CP thing.
Celia is simply INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't back down from the insurance agency. That's what they expect you to do - they'll try to wear you down. Rally your doctors to support your needs (to Aetna) and try to get the Insurance Commissioner involved. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!
love the new shoes and stander but I REALLY love the mopping the floors with their sisters! LOL!! Praying that you get the speech therapy!
