This and That

Bad News: Sofia is STILL SICK. :( I came home from church on Sunday (she stayed home with Daddy, because he was sick, and the twins have been coughing) and she had 104.7 temp. She had just finished her antibiotic that morning. Sigh... Went to Urgent Care- she has an ear infection in the other ear, and he thought croup as well. I got a much stronger antibiotic, but by Wednesday, she was still running a high fever, so we went to the Ped who ran all sorts of tests and concluded she has a nasty virus in addition to the ear infection. Poor Baby.

Good News: I never thought I'd be thankful for sickness, but through this 3 week long ordeal of her being sick, she has seemed to bond more to me. She wants me to hold her in the sling, and cries for me, and seems more comforted when she is being held. She also potty-trained during the "SICKNESS of 2011."
Five down, one to go. And no boys, I won't potty-train my grandchildren. I HATE it and I'm almost DONE!!!

Bad News: Celia and I had a marathon day at Children's Hospital on Tuesday. We had her wheelchair fitting. They drew her blood for all those non-CP diseases we are ruling out. They tried to get her to pee in a bag. Never gonna happen. We walked the halls FOR HOURS and filled her with water, juice and milk, and she flat-out REFUSED to pee in that bag. I finally called the Neuro and asked if they could cath her. She said No. So we went home with a lovely supply of bags and called it a day. Sure enough, when we got home she had flooded herself and that stupid bag and contaminated all the contents. I had thoughts of wringing out her diaper, but I refrained.

Good News: Our little princess will soon be sporting a sparkly white, glow in the dark, monogrammed wheelchair! And a new bath chair that is better suited for her, and a gait trainer. They even sent us home with a loaner gait trainer for a few months.
This girl has wheels and she LOVES IT!!!
"Look out World! Here I COME!!!"

Twin sissy helps when she gets stuck. It's funny because some days we get: "Are they twins?" and some days we get: "OH MY GOODNESS! Identical twins!! How do you tell them a part?"
I do think they are looking more alike now that the weight difference is down to 2 lbs.

This is what I like to call "Going to the Beach." In the winter, not just the dog tries to follow the sunlight around the family room.
And if you close your eyes and think about the waves on the beach, the background noise of four girls bickering can suddenly sound like seagulls overhead. The washing machine sounds like waves lapping the shore.
Not that I have tried it or anything.
Poor Ryan and Chelsea cannot sit on the couch and talk without at least one of the girls glued to them.
Chels loves our girlies and is such a sweet big sister.
Yesterday was also Ryan's 23rd birthday! He braved the germs and came home to celebrate with us.
I know 23 will be a memorable year for you :)
And yes, there is a hidden meaning there.

And lastly, I came home from therapy with Celia yesterday to find all these "Lost" posters on everyone's bedroom door. The picture is of drawings the girls did for the dog Gianna wants. Apparently the pictures disappeared and the girls decided to post notices in case anyone knew what happened.
Hmmm..... I have NO IDEA how such important papers inadvertantly ended up in the landfill.
Thankfully they didn't offer a reward, or their Daddy may have ratted me out.
Yes, I have guilt issues over this.
I think I need to go to the "beach."

  1. I know now that Celia has severe CP, and that gaining a family is so important, but there is something else I see today in her picture of her in the gait trainer that is screaming at me. Celia now has a reason to get up and try. Celia has hope. She looks filled with it. She is now going to dream of things and try to attain them. She now has a reason to come to life. Can you imagine what she must feel like inside to have the world suddenly placed in front of her and means to join it?

There is another blog I've followed of micro-preemie twins and one has CP. They are 6 now and the one with CP is just starting to get a glimmer of understanding that her CP makes her life vs. those without CP. It's taught me a lot and I've gotten to see how much this little girl has attained already. If you'd like to meet Holland and Eden, here is their blog address:

  3. Thanks for the "this and that." We love it all - good news, bad news - it's all good news to us! We "count it all joy....." and we "rejoice ever more......." and "we know that all things work together for good....." (Sofia's illness turning to bonding proves it!) Keep up the good work and we will continue to "pray without ceasing." God is so good, and we know that you all are in His hands.
Happy belated birthday, Ryan. We were airborne on your big day, but are looking forward to seeing you Saturday. We love you!
Happy birthday Cristy - you deserve the "Mom of the Year" award. We don't know how you do it except that The Lord "will supply all your needs." We love you and hope you have a wonderful day.
