Enough is enough.
Because of ALL the areas we need to work with Celia, every single situation can be a therapy session. ALL.DAY. LONG. Occupational therapy in teaching her how to play with toys with her hands. Physical therapy in strengthening her core, her neck muscles while in her walker, and in our lap or on the ball. Teaching her to roll properly, to scoot to get where she needs to go. Speech therapy by requiring her to say the words she has mastered. Feeding therapy by making her help hold her cup, chew food properly, and hold her fork. It can be exhausting for us both.
However, our happy little Celia works hard at therapy and is cheerful working during playtime.
She rarely minds if we switch her from feet playing to hand play.
She is just fine with the whole "eye patch wearing" thing.
Doesn't flinch when we have to rip it off.
She will cooperate with using her fork (for a few bites) even when she's REALLY hungry and just wants you to shovel it in.
SHe is very happy on the therapy ball and will hold her head up nice and high.
But she has her limits......
Don't you DARE make her say "UP" when she wants her Daddy.
And requiring her to say "More" is about to send her over the edge.
For the record, Celia can now say: Dada, good girl, more, up, hair, Go Go GO, Aria, Hi, Uh-oh, eat and pretty.
I'm quite certain she'll say "Mama" just as soon as I stop being such a meanie and making a therapy session out of her entire day.
So in other words.....I won't be holding my breath.
Your girls are so adorable. It is just so awesome to see how far they have come in such a short time. I never get over how much change can happen when a child is loved and in a loving home.
ReplyDeletePoor baby! But one day she will thank you when she is sitting at a fancy party, using a fork instead of her hands. It is always hard to say no to your child, not to say yes to the things that they think they want so much. Do you remember when you taught the boys to "look but don't touch" when they wanted to pick up something that would break? I do, and I remember they would put their little hands behind their backs, bend ever so slightly and just look, intently? Well I remember and so do a lot of other people who learned a lot from a young and very dedicated mother. YOU GO GIRL, YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING - HISTORY PROVES IT.!!!!
